Uganda Sipi Coffee: A Floral & Chocolate Gem from the Mountains of Kapchorwa
Uganda may be one of Africa’s oldest coffee producers, yet its specialty coffees are only now gaining the recognition they deserve. At Crema, we carefully source coffees like this to bring distinctive origins and exceptional quality directly to your cup. From the misty highlands of eastern Uganda comes a cup that is elegant, expressive, and quietly complex — Uganda Sipi Coffee.
Grown on the slopes of Mount Elgon in the Sipi region of Kapchorwa District, this coffee reflects its unique terroir: high altitude, volcanic soils, cool mountain air, and generations of coffee-growing knowledge.
Origin: Sipi, Kapchorwa District, Uganda
The Sipi region lies on the northeastern slopes of Mount Elgon, one of East Africa’s most fertile volcanic mountains. Coffee here is grown at altitudes ranging from 1,500 to 2,500 meters, allowing beans to mature slowly and develop layered, refined flavors.
Smallholder farmers cultivate coffee in rich volcanic soil, often alongside banana trees and natural forest cover. This environment contributes to the coffee’s clarity, sweetness, and aromatic complexity.

Varietals: Bourbon & Rare East African Selections
This lot features a carefully selected mix of renowned varietals:
-
Bourbon – Known for sweetness and balance
-
SL14 & SL28 – Classic East African varieties prized for complexity and structure
-
Blue Mountain – Valued for smoothness and refined mouthfeel
Together, these varietals create a harmonious cup that combines floral brightness, subtle fruit depth, and chocolate undertones.
Processing: Fully Washed & Sun Dried
The coffee is fully washed, a process that enhances clarity and highlights delicate floral and fruit notes. After fermentation and washing, the beans are sun dried, allowing flavors to stabilize naturally while preserving sweetness.
This careful processing results in a clean, transparent cup that truly reflects its high-altitude origin.
How It Tastes in the Cup
On the first sip, expect gentle floral notes — reminiscent of wildflowers and soft jasmine. As the cup opens, milk chocolate sweetness emerges, followed by dark fruit tones such as plum or black grape. The light body and mild acidity make this coffee exceptionally smooth and easy to drink.
It shines especially well as:
-
Pour-over (V60, Kalita)
-
Chemex
-
Light-bodied espresso
-
Cold brew for a floral, chocolatey profile
